Wow, this has to be one of my favourite weddings this year, at Trebah Gardens with the wonderful Natalie & James. I am one happy wedding photographer!
If I had a checklist for ideal weddings to photograph it might go something along these lines:
- Fun, interesting and down-to-earth couple.
- Awesome wedding venue with lots of photographic opportunities.
- A desire for honest, documentary photos for 98% of the day, with a couple of creative portraits thrown in to the mix.
- Warm & welcoming family/guests.
- Dogs! I love dogs at weddings!
- A hog roast/buffet with an invitation to ‘help myself’!
Natalie and James’s wedding at Trebah Gardens ticked all the boxes… and then some!
I had been looking forward to shooting this wedding, as I knew from our first meeting that they were my type of clients. The day started with a very relaxed bride preparation at a very snazzy holiday home in Mawnan Smith, and included last minute sausage roll cooking, bouquet construction and watching two, otherwise intelligent, grown men struggling for about an hour to tie ribbons to a car!
We then made our way down the road to the beautiful Trebah Gardens, and into the bright and intimate ceremony room, where a very nervous James greeted me. After the ceremony, and some yummy local ice cream, we took a stroll down through the gardens to the beach, stopping for a couple of portraits on the way.
The reception was in a marquee, and it looked stunning in the low evening sun. All the decoration and most of the catering was homemade, with family and friends all pitching in to make it an amazing day. The atmosphere was very relaxed with garden games, and no formal sit down meal, meaning everyone could just enjoy themselves.
The evening entertainment was a Cornish ceilidh, which is similar to line dancing or barn dancing, and had everyone up and moving, and was a fitting end to the day.
Throughout the day, the star of the show had to be James & Natalie’s 2 year old son Josh, who is a cheeky little bundle of energy, and kept everyone entertained!
