Carbis Bay Hotel Wedding

Rich & Nicky’s Carbis Bay Hotel wedding day

This amazing wedding, from back in May 2017, somehow slipped through the ‘blog net’! I don’t know how though, because it was one of the highlights of my year, and featured heavily in my Best of 2017 blog post.

Carbis Bay Hotel; the venue.

What a wedding venue! Right next to the sands of the privately owned beach, Carbis Bay near St Ives, it offers so much as a venue. They have the main hotel itself, which Rich & Nicky chose for their wedding day, with stunning views and high-end service. They also have The Wedding Hut and The Lower Deck as additional options which are down practically on the beach. All of them are great choices with different styles and atmospheres.

(UPDATED for 2020: there is a brand new wedding venue at Carbis Bay called the Ocean Venue, and you can check out Jon & Niamh’s Ocean Venue wedding here)

In fact there are a total of twelve licensed spaces at Carbis Bay as well as loads of accommodation choices and spas, hot tubs, pools and dining options!

A short stroll takes you to the beach, and if you are lucky like Rich and Nicky, you’ll get some of that famous St Ives golden light!

Rich & Nicky’s Wedding Day

After starting off at some nearby holiday cottages for the preparations, Rich & Nicky had their ceremony at St Ives Parish Church. Afterwards we headed outside the church where we got into some serious hugging and congratulatory action! It was so lovely to witness some incredibly emotional moments between their close friends and family and what I’m all about as a documentary photographer who focuses on real moments.

Unfortunately, as we started a few groups photos outside the church, the weather had other plans for us. So, with a hundred or more guests lined up in front of me, the heavens opened, and everyone stampeded to escape the rain! It was a really funny moment, and made for one of my favourite images from the day!

Back at Carbis Bay Hotel, we skipped a couple of planned events (confetti & portraits) due to the bad weather, and headed in for speeches and dinner. All the speeches were great, but a special mention goes to Rich’s best man Grant, for the brilliant film of him on a quest to find his speech! Rich and Grant actually head up an amazing local film company, Pixel Rain Film, check them out! It’s always very flattering when I’m hired by other creative professionals, and this was no exception!

Our luck turned after dinner, with the skies clearing and some of that soft St Ives light making an appearance. So we grabbed a small group of friends and family and headed down to the beach for some relaxed portraits, and to throw a bit of confetti (biodegradable of course!). It was so nice for Rich and Nicky to get down to the beach on their wedding day, and definitely a good reason to choose a wedding venue right near to some golden sands!

We finished the day with some sparklers on the balcony and plenty of dancing and fun times! The whole day was a joy to be involved with!
