The Oak Barn is a magic wedding venue in rural Devon!
The Oak Barn is an absolutely beautiful wedding venue with three wonderfully converted barn spaces and a charming cob farmhouse.
Rolling hills all around, landscaped gardens and lawns, ancient trees and a ton of character. It’s even right next to a church (literally!) if you want a religious ceremony, or you can use one of it’s licensed spaces for a civil wedding.
It has space for up to 90 people seated and easily 125 in the evening, with a load of outdoor space for guests to enjoy. The accommodation is top notch too.
The venue owners are lovely and very relaxed, and are happy for you to put your own stamp on the place.
Lucy & Adam’s Oak Barn Wedding
Lucy & Adam held their relaxed wedding day at the Oak Barn. It was an amazing wedding, with a strong focus on fun & games & laughter, and relaxing with loved ones. It also featured one of the best and craziest dance-floors of that wedding season, it was ace, everyone properly went for it!
Let’s backtrack a bit first though… Groom preparations mainly consisted of mild panic and confusion with the bow ties, and my strongest memories of bride prep are of everyone’s faces when they saw her looking stunning in the dress for the first time, and of people doing dodgy looking shots in egg cups! Apparently it’s a tradition of theirs!
After a lovely and intimate ceremony in the Acorn Barn, complete with brilliant singing and a jam packed full house room without a single seat spare, we piled outside for confetti, drinks and fun times. Plenty of high spirited games were going on, regardless of the changeable weather, including frisbee, swing-ball, hula-hoops, a coconut shy, and football.
Then we headed into the Oak Barn for food and some highly emotional speeches, which I think may have been a bit too much for Lucy’s lovely Dad! I absolutely love the image of him breaking down in tears during his heartfelt speech.
More gaming shenanigans and fun followed afterwards, and an absolutely epic dance-floor finished things off in style! I love staying late and getting stuck into the dance-floor action, such good memories to capture.
My experience as an Oak Barn wedding photographer
I had an amazing day and I’m super proud of the images we made together. I’m also excited that one of the images from this wedding (hula-hoop-girl at the top of the page) picked up an award with NineDots, an amazing wedding photography organisation that I’m part of. It was also great to work alongside Ed from Foster Films, who was on filming duties for the day.
I’d love to be involved in more weddings at the Oak Barn, so please contact me if you think we’d be a good fit, I’m always happy to have a chat. Scroll down to see a small selection from Lucy & Adam’s day (in no particular order).
