ALBION ROW

Best of 2018

Whoop! I’m stoked to unveil my annual best of roundup for 2018! It’s been an amazing year!

*Update: my 2019 ‘best of’ collection has now been posted, click through to see some more recent work*

It’s been my busiest year yet with tons of weddings all over Cornwall and Devon, and a few further afield. My cameras and I have put in some serious work with tens of thousands of images taken and I don’t know how many miles covered!

As always with me, my main focus is on real moments and real emotions, and the vast majority of the images below reflect that. However a group shot has made it into my roundup for the first time ever! Mostly because it was taken in the harbour on the Isles of Scilly, in horrendously windy conditions, with an awesome bridal party on the steps getting wind-blasted, while I balanced precariously (with my expensive cameras!) on a wobbly little skiff (a wee rowboat) and it makes me laugh whenever I see the image!

I’ve been lucky enough to pick up a few awards this year. In the early months of 2018 I picked up my first Fearless award. Only ~200 images won out of over 9000 entries, so I was pretty damn happy with that. That image went on to be featured on a Huffington Post article of 38 best wedding images as well!

I also joined This Is Reportage; a directory that only features and awards real wedding photojournalism, nothing staged whatsoever. I’ve gained 2 single image awards and a story award (for a set of 20 images from a single wedding) and ended up ranked in the ‘Top 30 worldwide’!!! Mental! Only about 4% of entries were awarded and I’m currently the only photographer in Cornwall or Devon with an award, so I’m super proud of that.

This set of images doesn’t include every single wedding that I’ve shot this year, so if you’re not in here I am sorry, but the sheer amount of images that I have from each year makes it so difficult to go through every wedding. Instead these are just a small selection of images that, for one reason or another, make me smile. You’ve got dramatic sunsets, crazy dancing, kids being kids and dogs being dogs (I LOVE DOGS!!). There’s some tender moments, laugh out loud moments and massive bear-hug moments. There’s hula hoop-ing, cliff jumping and bouncy castl-ing! Oh and a whole lotta love! It’s always an absolute privilege being invited into peoples lives for a day and witnessing so much love, joy and good times! A massive thank you to each and every person I’ve photographed this year; be it the couple, the family, friends, everyone – THANKS!

2019 is shaping up to be a cracker and is already 90% booked, so if you are getting married in 2019 please get in touch soon to avoid disappointment. You can see my previous ‘best of’ collections here: 2017 & 2016.

Enjoy and please, please, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think, I’d really appreciate that.

For Photographers: All images taken on Sony A9’s and a quiver or different lenses. After well over 18 months with the system I’m still in love with the A9 for weddings, and I still think it’s the best wedding camera on the market. • So good, man, what a round-up! That first wetsuit-dive especially, the guy dancing with the wine glass, that b/w earing-getting-on-shot (wow!), that leading-line bride’s arrival capture…just a few of my faves. What a brilliant collection!ReplyCancel

What an amazing year, Paul! Some amazing photography (no surprises there!) And some much-deserved recognition for the great work that you do. We’re thrilled that some of our photos made it into your “best of” because you really did capture the best moments of our day. Here’s to an equally awesome 2019 for you! Although, you won’t have our wedding to attend… So I guess it can’t be *equally* as good. 😉ReplyCancel
